Instructors
Meags Fitzgerald: Meags Fitzgerald is an artist from Halifax, Canada visiting A&A Studios until December. She’s spent nine years playing with chemical photobooths across the globe and is now writing and illustrating a graphic novel on the subject. While in Chicago she’ll be sharing her expertise on photostrip manipulation through a series of workshops at A&A. Anthony Vizzari: Anthony Vizzari is a trained architect, photographer and artist, with a passion for analog photography and alternative processes (anthonyvizzari.com). In 2007, Anthony established A&A Studios, Inc., a multifaceted creative studio and vintage photo shop in Chicago Illinois.
Workshop One: In Front of the
Camera : 10/27/2012
This workshop will give you an introductory knowledge of photobooth mechanics and
chemistry. A lecture on photobooth art will show you the possible effects you can achieve.
We’ll focus on effects you apply before the photos are taken; experimenting with exposures, filters, gels, mirrors, magnification and external light sources. As well as composition, utilizing backgrounds, props and costumes.
The workshop is Saturday, October 27th from 10-5. Materials are provided. It’s encouraged
that you bring interesting objects, costumes and large sheets of paper or fabric to use as
backgrounds.
Workshop Two: Going Beyond : 11/3/2012
We’ll re-contextualize what photostrips can be with a customized backless analog photobooth being built just for this workshop series.(Think...full body photos!) With it we’ll experiment with focus, wide angle lenses and taking photos at a distance.
We’ll also explore alternative paper and chemicals, applying dyes to developed photostrips,
partially exposing photos and collage & mixed media techniques.
The workshop is Saturday, November 3rd from 10-5. Materials are provided. It’s encouraged that you bring any specific materials that you would like to work with this day.
Workshop Three: Advanced Techniques &
Open Lab : 11/10/2012
A short lecture on large scale photobooth art will inspire you to think beyond the four frames. This open session allows you to plan and produce your own photos, applying all the skills and techniques from the previous workshops. The instructors will be on hand to help you plan and execute your concept.
The workshop is Saturday, November 10th from 10-5. Materials are provided. It’s encouraged that you bring any specific materials that you would like to work with this day.
